Dive In: A New Wave in the STEM Student Podcasting World

I am thrilled to announce the Kameron’s Lab | Dive In Podcast – a podcast specially designed for students and young professionals, by a student navigating the intricate paths of STEM herself. Dive In was born when I thought, ‘What would younger me have wanted to see?’ There are so many STEM influencers now and I think it is important Bermudian to the mix. Representation is so vital and I hope that Dive In shows Bermudian students what is available and that their dreams can be bigger than they ever imagined. And achievable!

Why call it ‘Dive In’?

The name is a not-so-subtle nod to Bermuda as we are in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Dive In is also a symbol of my commitment to deep-dive into the heart of STEM subjects. Not just skimming the surface. Whether it’s dissecting the future possibilities of AI, or spotlighting groundbreaking robotic innovations, Dive In is here to take you on an immersive journey.

The Goal

I want students to know that there is more to STEM than what they learn in class. You can create a social robot that mediates between students in different countries (Dr. Luis Merino) or you can launch a genetic study across the Caribbean that transforms healthcare forever (Dr. Carika Weldon). And those are just a couple of examples! The sky is truly the limit and even beyond (for all my space lovers out there).

What makes Dive In Special?

Through Dive In, I will be interviewing some of the most brilliant minds in STEM who I affectionately refer to as the ‘Jedi Masters of STEM’. They stand as a way for students to see the different pathways and learn from someone who is doing it and doing it well. In addition to that, I will be doing solo episodes that aim to make STEM topics easier to understand, offer advice to students, share a behind-the-scenes look of my personal STEM experiences.

Who have I interviewed so far?

I’m glad you asked! Already live are two fantastic episodes! The first is with Dr. Luis Merino, an associate professor at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide. His research focuses on social robotics and the human-robot interaction. We chatted about his love for robotics, Haru (learn about him in the episode), and the advice he has for students. Head to my blog post about it to listen!

My next guest hails from the AI domain, a voice cloning AI startup called Respeecher to be specific. Anna Bulakh is the Head of Ethics and Partnerships at Respeecher and she talked with me about Respeecher’s approach to security and privacy for their clients, how she uses her 10 years of experience in the security field in the tech space, and innovation vs. regulation. For those of you who haven’t heard of Respeecher, I promise you already love their work. Check out my blog post about our interview to learn more.

Engage with Dive In

Beyond just listening, Dive In offers an interactive platform. Got a burning question after an episode? Feel free to send it over, and I would love to host a follow-up interview or address it in a special Q&A session. Find Dive In on all your favourite podcast directories and check out my social media for sneak peeks into every episode.
